We ask what’s right and wrong. We ask what we should do in our lives. We ask whether the things we’re doing now is really worth it at all. We all have started to question ourselves and the things we do since the time Adam and Eve ate that damn fruit.
It is the way of our society. Why are we wasting our time studying? What use is all these grades and qualifications when we are judged? Do they matter before Him? Of course not. But it matters to us now. Ask the person begging on the street for money. Tell him. Ask and you shall be given. Seek and you shall find. He’ll spit in your face because he has been asking and begging for money since god knows when. This is what we’re reduced to.
Look at the school dropout. Who has been reduced to working odd jobs due to his lack of qualifications. Ask him.Given the chance again, would you study hard? Or would you follow the same path and drop out since studying really doesn’t matter anyway? He’ll say he would rather study hard because in this world, if he does not do so, he’ll die of being ousted out by society. These are examples of non-believers. Or maybe of people with little faith in the Lord. But in the society we live in, this is so common.
All these competitions. The rat race. The aim to reach the top. They all don’t matter in the end. So should we give up our education now and go be missionaries in Haiti? What can we do? We don’t even have a hint of medical knowledge. We don’t even know the language of the people. We don’t even know the terrain of the land. All we can do, is use our bare hands. And who knows, we might become more of a hassle than help.
Teachers tell us to study. Parents tell us to study. To get good grades. So that we can get into a good university. So that we can get a good job. So that we can earn lots of money. So that we’ll have a good life. So that we won’t suffer in life. Bull. Since we’re already students and we know we can’t escape from this fact without facing major obstacles, take this time to learn. Learn not for the sake of reaching the top and to beat others, but for the sake of helping others. God knows that the emphasis society places on learning is wrong. What does it matter anyway? You know that too.
There is a time for everything. But since, we’re stuck here anyway, until the day of judgement, why not use it right?
P.S. But then again, if learning to help others becomes a competition too, then we all deserve to go to hell.
